Why the silent generation?

People born from 1925 through 1942 are members of the Silent Generation, also known as the Sandwich Generation, squeezed between the Great Generation, to use Tom Brokaw's term, and the Baby Boomers. The Silent have been dismissed as adaptive, conformist, and passive. Is this true? Let's find out in later posts.
